We have had a few more chats with Judy and she has told us how she became aware of satellite uplinks attached to the network she had become part of. Even though her terminal was pretty low down the food chain it still had limited access to the overall system. JudyZ was a lot smarter than that and before too long she was seeing through the eyes of satellites linked to the military base. She could only see where they were pointing but she could listen in to the communications traffic and that’s when she began to pick up chatter about the hostiles and it didn’t take her long to realise they meant us.
The girls reckon that Judy is broken. Hardly surprising given what she has been through, but they are genuinely worried and want the Nerds to keep an eye on what she is up to.
The Monkey is still scowling. He has been up on the roof a lot with a bottle and a cigar. I have joined him occasionally by hanging out of the loft window, but I can’t really navigate the roof – I would end up squashed in the garden. He is building up anger and needs an outlet for it pretty soon. The black hole is still quiet, and I hope he doesn’t instigate anything that draws attention to us. We seem to be living a charmed existence at the moment (undoubtedly due to the influence of the Monster Highs) but I sense this could flip at any time.
Blade is on TV in a bit and I have talked The Monkey into coming down to watch it – that and the fact that it has started pissing down. The Nerds have headed back to theirs, I suggested that it might be wise given the violence simmering just below the surface. Actually, that’s a point – perhaps Blade is not the best choice of movies. Oh well, the girls are watching with us and hopefully they will prevent him from doing me too much harm if he gets carried away…
We have just come back from the pub and it looked like the living room was on fire. An orange glow flickered through the blinds and spilled out of the doorway when we got in the house. Judy’s laptop screen was filled with ‘What’s happening? What’s happening? What’s happening?’ and there on the wall the monkey pendant was blazing with that orange light.
The Nerds almost killed each other running up the stairs but The Monkey still beat them up there. The black hole is spinning like a whirlpool – round and round it goes, where it stops nobody knows…
The black hole is still spinning, makes me feel sick to look at it, and the monkey pendant has begun screaming again – we have locked it in a box. We are all feeling weird and I don’t think it’s just the drink or the monstrous spliff that The Monkey has rolled. There seems to be an odd vibration coming from the black hole and it sort of hits you in the chest and makes you feel uncomfortable – like something is running around in your rib cage, as if your heart is on a hamster wheel. Like the circles that you find, in the windmills of your mind…
